Choosing a starter is the first real decision in every Pokémon game and most players make the same one every time, by type, for two decades. Draw instead and play the whole game with whatever comes up, no trading, no box. Twenty-seven starters spanning the first nine generations, Bulbasaur through Quaxly, so a draw can hand you a beloved one or the one you have always quietly avoided. That second case is the point. They are almost all better than their reputation.
